Anita Diamant
When I was asked by The Writer magazine to do a photo shoot with best-selling
author Anita Diamant, it felt a bit like old-home week. Anita's and my
professional paths had crossed many times over the years, when both of us
worked at Equal Times newspaper, the Boston Phoenix, and then finally, for
the Boston Globe. The story we were illustrating here was an interview with
Anita, in which she explained how her own hard work, initiative, and
persistence had helped make The Red Tent a perennial best seller and a top
choice of book clubs around the world. Anita liked to joke that the room
behind her was financed by the successes of that book! One of my favorite
parts of this image is Anita's dog, Pom, lurking on the sidelines. When we do
location shoots like this, we generally bring the studio to the
client--meaning that we have lights, stands, umbrellas, and reflectors in the
room but out of sight, artificially creating the natural, well-lit view seen
here.
